Abstract

1301947 Trocar and catheter assembly D S SHERIDAN 11 Aug 1970 [19 Sept 1969] 38722/70 Heading A5R A trocar-catheter assembly comprises a rigid stylet 4 of circular cross section with an enlarged end 16 and a catheter of plastics material with a smooth, closed conical tip 24, a fluid opening 28 and a central body portion the interior of which conforms to the shape of the stylet. In a preferred embodiment the stylet is provided with a capillary groove 10 and a solid plastics ball 16. The tip of the catheter 24 is formed of rigid plastics material whilst the remainder 6 is of flexible plastics material. The proximal end of the catheter may comprise a male (44) (Fig. 3, not shown) or a female 42 connector for auxillary apparatus. The catheter includes a depth penetration stop 48. This comprises a slotted tubular member having a radially extending collar. The assembly may be enclosed in a sealable package and sterilised by exposure to ethylene oxide vapour or to gamma radiation.
