Abstract

1301697 Transistor monostable circuits PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Feb 1970 [1 March 1969] 9375/70 Heading H3T A monostable multivibrator as shown is characterized in that the emitter of transistor 3 is connected to the base of transistor 1, while the base of 3 is coupled to a terminal 14 having on it a reference voltage -V R , this terminal also being connected to the emitter of 1 via a threshold element 16 whose theshold value is equal to the sum of the base of emitter function voltages of transistors 1 and 3. The pulse width is varied by a rheostat 13 connected either as shown or in the collector circuit of 3. In the stable state, 1 is bottomed, thereby charging capacitor 4 with the polarity shown; 2 and 3 are off. An input pulse at 17 is differentiated by 18; its leading edge has no effect but its trailing edge biases 1 off and tends to turn 3 on. 1 going off turns on 2, and this causes the emitter of 3 to go more positive and so definitely turn on. Capacitor 4 then discharges to the supply via 2 and 3 in series at a rate determined by the setting of 13. When it is sufficiently discharged the circuit switches back to its stable state. The output signal 21 is taken from terminal 20. The components other than the capacitors and variable resistor 13 may be made in integrated form. The threshold device 16 enables very short output pulses to be obtained.
