Abstract
1301405 Trench excavating apparatus DEUTSCHE BAUAKADEMIE ZU BERLIN 14 Jan 1971 1993/71 Heading E1F [Also in Division F2] Pipe laying apparatus comprises an excavator 5, an open topped laying box 1 positioned in the excavated trench between the excavator 5 and trench filling, consolidating and levelling means 6, 7a - 7c and 8 respectively, a conveyor 4 for feeding excavated soil from the excavator 5 to the filler 6, and a feeder 3 for feeding a pipe length 11 to the laying box which is provided with means 13, 14 for connecting the pipe length 11 to the previously laid pipe 12. In the embodiment described the apparatus is mounted on a tracked vehicle 2. The excavator 5 is preferably a trench cutter with a screw conveyor or bucket chain. The laying box is provided with a levelling blade 9, a bottom plate 10 the profile of which corresponds at the rear end to the bottom half of the pipe and pipe guides 17. The funnel shaped filler 6 also includes a grader for directing the finer soil to tamper 7a and surface compressor 7c. The pipe connecting means comprises a piston 13 which acts longitudinally or the pipe length 11 and a clamp 14 for holding the previously laid pipe 12 against movement.
