Abstract

1301397 Single trigger mechanisms for sporting guns VERNEY-CARRON SA 28 July 1970 [5 Aug 1969 2 July 1970] 36494/70 Heading F3C A double barrelled gun has a single trigger mechanism comprising a single trigger 4 mounted for pivoting about a pin which extends transversely of a trunnion 1, the trunnion 1 being mounted for pivoting about its longitudinal axis. The trigger 4 carries an arm 4<SP>1</SP> which is arranged to co-operate, according to its angular position, with either of two sears 6, 8. Means is provided which is arranged to be engaged by the rear end of one 5 of the cocked strikers so as to pivot the trunnion 1 and thereby position the trigger arm 4<SP>1</SP> for co-operation with the sear 6 through which the first shot is to be fired. After the first shot the means is released due to the firing movement of the striker 5 and a spring 15 is provided for pivoting of the trunnion 1 to position the trigger arm 4<SP>1</SP> for co-operation with the other sear 8. In the construction shown the means consists of an eccentric projection 1<SP>1</SP> rigid with the trunnion 1. The spring 15 acts on the trigger-trunnion assembly through a rod 11 and a support 9 connected to the trigger. A further support 10 opposed to the support 9 is also provided and co-operates with a further rod 12. The rods 11, 12 actuate the ejectors housed in the barrel assembly 14 when the gun is opened. Movement of the arm 4<SP>1</SP> is limited by bosses 6<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP> on the sears 6, 8. The spring 15 may be replaced by a leaf spring (Fig. 6, not shown). In a modification the means arranged to be engaged by the striker comprises a block, the block having a link pivoted thereto. The link engages a pin extending laterally of the trunnion (Figs. 7, 8, not shown). In a further modification an arrangement is provided whereby the barrel to be fired first may be selected. The arrangement comprises a supporting lever 37 and a selecting lever 40 pivoted on the trunnion and engaging the lever 37, the supporting lever 37 forming the means arranged to be engaged by the striker. The selecting lever 40 may be held in a forward position by a manually actuatable selecting device which includes a projection 42 whereby on engagement of the lever 37 with the cocked striker the levers 37 and 40 are pivoted so that the trunnion is pivoted. When the lever 40 is retracted no such pivoting of the trunnion takes place and a spring and rod assembly (Fig. 12, not shown) pivots the trunnion in a direction contrary to that when the lever 40 is held in its forward position. A spring loaded lever (47, Fig. 12, not shown) is provided and is arranged to engage the other striker so that on the firing of the gun for the first time the other striker moves forwardly releasing the spring loaded lever. This lever under its spring loading engages a pin extending transversely of the trunnion to pivot the trunnion.
