Abstract

1301090 Seals DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 27 Feb 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 10905/69 Heading F2B A labyrinth seal in, for example, a gas turbine engine comprises a cylindrical surface 12 co-operating with an annular edge 24, the cylindrical surface being on a cylindrical wall 16 which is joined to a radially or conically extending wall and at their junction there being a vibration-inhibiting member 34 which is fastened to the radially or conically extending wall and engages the cylindrical surface to inhibit vibrations in the cylindrical wall. As shown, two cylindrical surfaces 12, 14 on a stationary outer part 10 co-operate with annular edges 24, 26 on the rotary inner part 22. The vibrationinhibiting members 34, 36 may be fastened to the stationary part by rivets and formed either as continuous rings or as rings made up of circumferentially-spaced parts. The vibrationinhibiting members may also be provided for the cylindrical walls which support the annular edges 24, 26 when these walls are longer.
