1301079 Alkoxybenzophenones ICI AMERICA Inc 21 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 16248/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Alkoxy benzophenones of formula where R is C 2-12 alkyl may be prepared by reacting 2,4 - dihydroxy - 4<SP>1 </SP>- methoxybenzophenones with alkyl halides in the presence of a mild inorganic base, e.g. potassium carbonate. In examples the 4-n-butoxy- and 4-n-octyloxycompounds are prepared by reacting 2,4- dihydroxy-4<SP>1</SP>-methoxybenzophenone with (1) 1-bromobutane and (2) 1-bromo-octane.
