Mountings for use on aircraft.- Relates to mountings of the kind in which the gun a, Fig. 1, is carried by a pillar 1 supported at its lower end on a footstep bearing 6 and near its upper end on a guide-ring 9 giving an all-round traverse. The invention consists in universally jointing the gun to an arm 20 adjustably pivoted at 19 to the pillar 1 above the guidering, releasable means being provided to lock the gun arm to the pillar and the pillar to the guidering. A gunner's seat 36 is also slidably mounted on the pillar 1 and locked by a hook 38. In the form shown, a pillar 1 of box section reinforced by a tube 2 is supported at its base on the floor 8 of the fuselage of an aeroplane by a ball-and-socket joint 6, and near its upper end is fitted with a bracket 11, Fig. 3, carrying a pair of rollers 13 engaging the inside of the ring 9 and a bracket 14 carrying an adjustable roller 16 engaging the outside of the ring 9 midway between the rollers 13. The upper end of the pillar 1 carries a pair of spring-controlled bolts 23 which engage with holes in sector plates 22 on the arm 20 and can be released to permit adjustment of the arm by operating a handle 26 connected to the bolts 23 by links 24. A spring- controlled pin 28 engaging holes in the ring 9 can likewise be released by operating a lever 29 to allow the pillar to be traversed round the ring. To permit of the gun being elevated and trained with respect to the arm 20, the gun is connected to a pin pivoting in a block 31, itself horizontally trunnioned in the arm 20, and the spade grip of the gun may be connected to the arm by a catch 35.
