Abstract

1300498 Elevation overspeed brake CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 3 June 1971 [15 June 1970] 18733/71 Headings B8B and B8L An overspeed brake mechanism on a stacker vehicle elevator car 10 movable within frames 12, 14, comprises a generator 18 for providing a speed reference signal of the car, brakes 24, 26 on the car for interacting with the frames and brake actuating means triggered when the speed reference signal exceeds a particular value. Each brake comprises a pair of shoes 32, 34 spring biased apart for engagement with flanges on the frame 14, but normally held inoperative against this spring bias by a keeper 46 having pins 50, 52 engaged in holes in the shoes. The keeper pins are subjected to a bias out of engagement with the shoes by a tension spring 64 acting on a bar 48 of the keeper 46, the bar 48 being normally prevented from moving by a half shaft 86 engaging a notch 88 in the bar. The shaft 86 is movable clear of the notch 88 to permit brake actuation upon a fork 96 being retracted by the armature 94 of a solenoid 92 energizable by the generator signal. Movement of the bar 48 for the brake 24 causes movement of a similar bar 72 of the brake 26, through a sprocket 60 and racks 58 formed on the two bars. The generator 18 is mounted on the car 10 and has a toothed rotor 20 drivable by engagement with a rack 22 formed on the frame 14, to generate a D.C. voltage having a polarity according to the direction of movement of the car. The circuit including the generator and solenoid 92 comprises a unidirectionally conductive device and is arranged to operate the solenoid only during downward movement of the car, when the car exceeds a pre-determined speed.
