Abstract

1488635 Safety belt locking mechanism ACIERS ET OUTILLAGE PEUGEOT 12 March 1976 [31 July 1975] 10021/76 Heading A3V To prevent unwinding of a seat belt in an emergency due to passenger movement two discs 8, 9 are provided on the reel shaft the disc 8 being fixed thereto and the disc 9 rotatable thereon a roller 14 being located in recesses 13, 27 respectively and co-operable with a fixed notched plate 15 to lock the reel due to outward movement, which movement is caused by relatively rapid rotation of the reel and disc 8 which through a spring 28 acting on disc 9 causes the rollers to lock in the plate 15 thus preventing further unreeling. The spring force. is adjustable by either holes 30a-30c in which the end is located or by an adjusting screw (not shown). The vehicles deceleration can be sensed by an inertia mass 23 which causes locking of disc 9, movement of the passengers body then causing locking of the belt as described above.
