Abstract
1300465 Electrolytic purification and production of sodium NICHICON CAPACITOR Ltd 10 June 1970 [19 June 1969(2)] 28034/70 Heading C7B Sodium metal is electrolytically produced from molten sodium salt or sodium oxide, or is electrolytically purified, using a cell divided by a diaphragm of ceramic solid electrolyte as claimed in Specification 1296145, the molten salt or hydroxide, or the molten impure metal being supplied to the anode compartment, and pure sodium being withdrawn from the cathode compartment. Using sodium chloride as anolyte, the necessary melt temperature may be lowered by addition of calcium chloride. The anode may be of iron and the cathode of iron or aluminium, and the cell may be provided with a heater to maintain the contents molten.
