Abstract

1299439 Milling phthalocyanines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 March 1970 [9 April 1969] 18217/69 Heading C4P The #-form of copper phthalocyanine is obtained by milling copper phthalocyanine with a fatty amine and a solid grinding agent which can be dissolved by a neutral, alkaline or acid aqueous medium and then washing the ground mixture with the aqueous medium to remove the grinding aid. Grinding aids used include anhydrous sodium carbonate, sodium chloride, anhydrous sodium sulphate, anhydrous calcium chloride, magnesium carbonate, dolomite, chalk and alumina. The fatty amines which include fatty amines further substituted by amino groups and preferably contain at least nine Carbon atoms are primary, secondary or tetiary amines and are used in amounts of 10 to 40% by weight of the copper phthalocyanine and this component may be removed from the copper phthalocyanine by extraction with an organic liquid e.g. iso-propanol, or may be left in the product. The product is used as the cyan component in printing inks.
