Abstract

1299274 Coating apparatus VEPA AG 4 March 1970 [14 March 1969] 10289/70 Heading D1L An apparatus for coating air-permeable materials, especially non-wovens, felts, tufteds, needle felts and knitted fabrics, comprises means to heat the material to the melting or gelling temperature of the coating material and means to apply the coating material to the heated material. In one embodiment, the material to coated 7 is fed to a sieve drum 2, in chamber 5, by conveyor belt 8. The material 7 is heated by drawing heated air in the chamber through the material and sieve drum 2. The material 7 then passes under a coating unit 12, and coating material is applied to the heated material 7 by a funnel 16 with perforated walls 17. The material 7 remains in the chamber 5 until the coating material has gelled. A second embodiment, not shown, has a coating unit outside of a heating chamber, but prior to a second chamber in which the coating material is gelled or hardened.
