1299251 Decimal calculator with binary lowest order BROTHER KOGYO KK 8 May 1970 [8 May 1969 12 Aug 1969] 22286/70 Heading G4B In a calculator wherein all the decimal orders of the accumulator are operated by actuators whose movements are limited by the normal pin carriage, the lowest order of the accumulator is binary, and is operated by an actuator whose movement is limited by means other than the pin carriage. As shown, Fig. 1, an accumulator has its lowest order pinions 20 provided with ten teeth 20a and five carry. teeth 20b for binary operation, whilst all the other accumulator pinions 2 have one carry tooth for decimal operation. Each decimal actuator 3 has a lug 3a adapted to engage the corresponding set pin in a carriage 6 and is arranged to enter into the add or subtract side of the accumulator through printing sector 14 and further sector 10. When the carriage is in its home position, Fig. 1, carriage end plate 6a acts on a lug 27c of a slide 27 to keep a lug 27b clear of a recesses 21b, Fig. 2, formed in the binary actuator 21. This actuator, as well as all the decimal actuators are then free to move for totalling purposes. After setting one or more digits and thus indexing the pin carriage, slide 27 is moved by spring 28 to position lug 27b in recess 21b to block the binary actuator. Subsequent depression of key 32 acts through slidable wedge 29, Fig. 6, to move slide 27 against spring 28 to unblock actuator 21. Wedge 29 is locked in its depressed position by the end of slide 27 engaging in groove 29a and is only freed when the pin carriage is returned to home. Blocking mechanism 34 (also Figs. 7 and 9, not shown) is provided to prevent depression of key 32 when the pin carriage is in home position.
