1299114 Printing inks BAYER AG 4 May 1970 [3 May 1969] 21273/70 Heading C4A [Also in Division C3] Printing ink binders comprise (i) 5-95% by wt. of a conjugated drying oil, (ii) 0-90% of one or more air-drying alkyd resins, (iii) 0-30% of a hard resin and (iv) 0À5-10% of one or more mono- or poly-α-halogenoketones or the corresponding vinylogous or phenylegous compounds as drying catalyst. Inks comprise the above binders and one or more organic or inorganic pigments, and are curable by U.V. radiation. In examples, varnish 1 comprises 4 p.b.w. wood oil and 1 p.b.w. maleate resin boiled under N 2 ; varnish 2, 5 p.b.w. of a long oil, isocyanatemodified, alkyd resin based on safflower oil and 1 p.b.w. wood oil; varnish 3, 45 p.b.w. wood oil, 19 p.b.w. maleate resin, 100 p.b.w. of a long oil fatty acid alkyd resin and 180 p.b.w. isocyanatemodified long oil safflower alkyd resin, and the catalysts added are: phenacyl chloride, #-#-#- trichloroacetophenone, dichlor - α - indanone, desyl dichloride, 2,2,3,4,4 - pentachlor - 1 - oxonaphthalenetetrahydride, 1,1,3 - trichlor - 2- oxo - naphthalenedihydride, p - benzoylbenzal chloride and bromide, p-benzoylbenzotrichloride, trichloroethylidene - acetophenone, 4,4<SP>1</SP>- bischloromethylbenzophenone, 4,4<SP>1</SP> - bisdichloromethylbenzophenene and 4,4<SP>1</SP> - bisdibromomethylbenzophenone.
