1298760 Alcohols by oxo process MAGYAR ASVANYOLAJ ES FOLDGAZ KISERLETI INTEZET 10 March 1970 11471/70 Heading C2C A process for the continuous preparation of alcohols comprises reacting olefine-containing raw material with a carbon monoxide/hydrogencontaining gas mixture having a carbon monoxide content in excess of 50 vol. per cent in the presence of a cobalt-containing catalyst in a first reaction stage whereby an aldehydecontaining product is obtained, and reacting said aldehyde-containing product with a carbon monoxide / hydrogen - containing gas mixture having a hydrogen content in excess of 50 vol. per cent in a second reaction stage whereby an alcohol-containing product is obtained, said carbon monoxide/hydrogen-containing gas mixture employed in the first reaction stage being obtained by recycling means from the products of the second reaction stage. Preferably a portion of the product of the second stage is also recycled to the first stage in order to recycle cobalt.
