Abstract

1298470 Doffing and donning of winding packages TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 19 Dec 1969 [24 Dec 1968 27 Dec 1968 28 Dec 1968] 62162/69 Headings D1J and D1F Yarn is supplied continuously to a winding unit, and when a bobbin is fully wound the yarn is severed and sucked away to a waste receptacle, the full bobbin is released from its driven position, a new empty bobbin is placed in contact with the yarn and started to rotate, the yarn is severed between the bobbin and the suction device, and its end is transferred to the new bobbin so that the yarn is wound thereon. Bobbin support and rotation (Fig. 6A). Bobbin 26 is supported on two rollers 5 carried by a cradle 2 pivoted at 3 and counterbalanced by a weight 4. A driven grooved traverse drum 1 frictionally rotates the package, possibly initially by elastic spacing rings (74, Fig. 7A, not shown). Full package indication. As the bobbin fills the cradle 2 tilts until a projection 7 trips a micro-switch 9, causing a servicing unit 72 (Fig. 9), which travels on tracks 71 past several winding units, to stop adjacent the filled bobbin, and a framework supported by the carriage to approach the winding unit. Yarn Severing Device (Fig. 5). A severing device is carried by a doffing head 16 (Fig. 6A) which is vertically movable on the framework. The yarn 15 passes through a guide 216 and, on actuation of a solenoid 213, a lever plate 208 moves a pivoted blade 203 to cooperate with a stationary blade 202, severing the yarn. The supplied yarn is then sucked into a flexible tube 17 through an opening in the doffing head 16 (Fig. 6B). Doffing of Full Bobbin (Fig. 6C). The doffing head 16 is lowered, engaging cradle 2 to disengage the full bobbin from driving roller 1, and an arm 19 is pivoted to tilt cradle 2 further, so that the bobbin engages fixed plates 10, and is dislodged from the rollers 5 to a conveyor or a storage rack 11. Arm 19 is then withdrawn, allowing the cradle to rise until it again engages the doffing head 16. Supply of Empty Bobbin (Fig. 4B). An empty bobbin 26 from a hopper 25 is advanced by a motor-driven rack and pinion mechanism 106, 107 to be gripped between fixed fingers 109 and a movable finger 110 both mounted on a swingable arm 111 carried by the doffing head 16. A motor 125 pivots arm 111 carrying the bobbin 26 to the rollers 5 on the cradle, and releasing it (Fig. 6E). The yarn 15 now passes around the new bobbin on its path to the suction device. Commencement of Winding on New Bobbin. Doffing head 16 is raised, allowing the new bobbin to be rotated by driving roller 1. Yarn 15 now passes past the severing device on its way to the suction device, and is severed thereby. A jet of high-pressure air carries the yarn end onto the surface of the new bobbin so that winding commences. The yarn end may be caught in a notch 73 on the bobbin end (Fig. 7B) or by adhesive tapes 74 (Fig. 7C).
