Abstract

1298347 Photographic transfer processes XEROX CORP 11 Dec 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 60515/69 Heading G2C [Also in Division B6] A process for producing images comprises imagewise exposing to radiation of high intensity and short duration a material comprising a radiation transmissive support and a layer of radiation absorbing particles through the support so that the exposed particles are propelled by the action of the radiation alone on to a receiving sheet placed adjacent to the particulate layer. The radiation source is preferably a laser or a xexnon flash lamp and the exposure is preferably from 1 microsecond to 10 milliseconds at an intensity between 0À1-0À4 joules per square centimetre. The material may be a glass or polyester support on which is deposited particles of C, S, Se, ZnO, CdS or organic pigments. It is suggested that transfer of the particles occurs because of expansion of air between the particles propelling than to the receptor sheet. The process may be used for impactless typewriters (see Division B6). The transferred image may be fused by heating if a polymeric receiving sheet is used or protected by spraying with an acrylic resin.
