1298177 Variable speed gears DAIMLER BENZ AG 19 April 1971 [21 March 1970] 24545/71 Heading F2D On the input side of a Simpson gear I is a two-speed (direct and either under or over drive) gear II. The gear II may have a splitter gear or extend the ratios by another ratio on either end of the forward range of ratios. The clutches and brakes A to F may all be disc clutches and brakes with the same size discs. There may be a hydro-dynamic converter on the input side of the gear II. This may have a casing with a rear wall forming the front wall of the casing of gear I, the casings being bolted together.
