1298164 Laminated products DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 1 Jan 1971 [2 Jan 1970] 145/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division F2] A composite body is produced by stacking together alternate layers of a plasticizer-free thermoplastic which is a vinyl chloride homo- or co-polymer which may be after-chlorinated and of fibrous material, at least one side of each fibrous layer being intimately coated with or in contact with the thermoplastic and the top and bottom layers of the assembly being of the thermoplastic, all the layers having a temperature at least as high as the softening temperature of the thermoplastic as they are brought together, and pressing to combine the layers while maintaining them at a temperature at least as high as the softening temperature of the thermoplastic. The layers may be united in a press, between rollers or on a machine for spirally winding them to form a reinforced tube. The fibrous layers may be woven or non-woven and in the form of mats, cloths, webbing, felts or multi-layer assemblies. They may be of fibres of glass, quartz, asbestos, mineral wool, basalt wool, carbon, metal, polyimide, aromatic polyamide, polybenzimidazole or cotton or of polyester-reinforced tyre cord and may contain a polyester binder. The plastics layers may be of vinyl chloride copolymerized with vinyl acetate, a vinyl ether, acrylic acid, fumarates, maleates, acrylonitrile, vinylidene chloride, ethylene or propylene and may comprise the vinyl chloride polymer mixed with polyethylene, ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer or acrylonitrile- (or methacrylate) butadiene-styrene copolymer. They may be in the form of a sheet or film or a powder which is fused, sintered or pressed on to the fibre layers. Heating may be effected by using a gas which is heated by high frequency energy or IR in a heating tunnel, calenders or rollers.
