1298149 Dimerization process SNAM PROGETTI SpA 30 Dec 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 61891/70 Heading C2C Compounds having the formula wherein A is a divalent substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl radical and X is a -NO 2 , -CN, CH 3 CO- or -CHO group, are obtained by heating in an inert atmosphere cobalt-III complexes of the formula wherein L 1 to L 4 are ligand groups belonging to the same or different ligand molecules. For example, hexane-2,5-dione and succinodinitrile may be produced from cobalt III complexes in which -A-X is an acetonyl or cyanomethyl group respectively, in the former case 2,5-dimethylfuran is produced as a by-product.
