Abstract

1297702 Transformers ALSTHOM-SAVOISIENNE 23 Feb 1970 [26 Feb 1969] 8658/70 Heading HIT A multiple transformer mounting consists of a metal base 1 with feet 2, insulated porcelain pillars 4, and metal girders 3, perpendicular to the pillars. A metal tank oil-filled transformer with lugs 5 is mounted on each pair of girders 3, being supported at an angle to the girders by the lugs 5 to improve oil flow cooling and allow escape of any gas generated. Bracing girders 6, Fig. 2 (not shown), are fitted between each pair of girders 3 being removable on one side for insertion of the transformer &c. Each transformer is surrounded by a discharge arrester 7 which is held at the potential of the tank and the central point of the high tension winding of its transformer. The radius of curvature of these arresters is calculated with reference to its potential from ground. Further arresters 9 protect the intertransformer connectors. The height of the pillars 4 is a function of the voltage difference between the stages they separate. External high potential connection is made via a large diameter tube 8 which can be withdrawn within the associated discharge arrester.
