1297700 Check-out shop counters W POTRAFKE 16 Dec 1970 [20 Dec 1969] 59671/70 Heading A4T In a check-out counter in which goods pass directly from a basket or via a conveyer 15, Fig.3 from a trolley and, after checking, slide down incline 8 to one of three withdrawal compartments 9-11, the goods are directed to a selected compartment by means of a conveyer belt 18 movable in either direction and set in a recess of incline 8 at the mouth of middle compartment 10 and having a cross-slide 21 moved by sliding handle 22 which when the slide is in line with partition 13 or 14 keeps gates 19, 20 closing compartment 10, and when on the outer side of either partition, opens the gates across the conveyer for access to compartment 10. The interconnected gates may be linked by a spring to close and opened by a sliding cam actuating arms on the gate pivots, or operated by linkage to a rotating member having a pin connection with a cam slot on the sliding handle, or the latter may operate the inter-connected gates via moving nuts on helical rods and gearing. A camming device may be provided whereby the upstream closed gate 19 has its outer edge displaced proud of that of the downstream gate 20 to prevent jamming of goods moving into e.g. outer compartment 11, the displacement being a slight rotation of the gate or a linear movement of the gate produced by axial movement of a spring-loaded bar carrying the gate hinge. The conveyer belt may have spaced rollers allowing dirt to fall into a lower tray.
