Abstract
1297657 Casting processes UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 1 Dec 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 57066/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] A composite material comprising a matrix phase and a dispersed aligned fibrous or lamellar carbide phase is cast from a quartenary material system of eutectic composition which material system is thermodynamically multivariant. The following alloy compositions may be used (in wt. per cent). The required structure is formed by unidirectional solidification of the alloys along a macroscopically planar front at 2-20 cm./hr. 10 cm./hr. is specified for alloy (I) above and 8 cm./hr. for alloy (IV) above.
