Abstract

1297237 Selective printing CREED & CO Ltd 7 Oct 1971 46707/71 Heading B6F A wire mosaic printer comprises a row of styli 3 which are selectively projected and moved linewise to form a character, the styli being returned to the beginning of a character and shifted transversely of the line direction by half the spacing between the styli, the styli then being moved again to form a character on a matrix whose number of rows is double the number of styli. The styli may be mounted on a carriage A separate from a carriage B carrying stylus drivers 6. The carriage B being driven steadily by a cord (9, Fig. 3) winding round a roller (11) whereas the carriage A is also driven by a cord (10) which is additionally controlled by a cam (16) acting on pulleys. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) a stepper motor (17) drives a carriage (E), which supports both styli and drivers, backwards and forwards.
