1297123 Variable speed gear VOITH GETRIEBE KG 3 Dec 1969 [3 Dec 1968] 59045/69 Heading F2D A forward and reverse gear includes mechanical reversing gearing including clutches (e.g. on a sleeve 14 splined on the output shaft 13) and interrupter (e.g. a clutch 43 and/or a hydrodynamic torque converter 6) between a source of power M and the mechanical gearing, a clutch actuator (e.g. a jack 22-and a linkage 15) for selectively setting the mechanical gearing in forward or reverse, a manual direction selector 25, a speed sensor (e.g. a pump 33 and a valve 45) to provide a "stop" signal when the output speed is negligible, a comparator 37 of the output direction and the selected direction of the selector 25, which on detecting a difference, produces a "change" signal which causes the interrupter to disconnect the source 25 from the gearing until a "stop" signal is produced when the clutch actuator changes the direction of the mechanical gearing. When used in a vehicle the gear may be connected to the vehicle wheel brakes so as to operate the brake (e.g. by a piston 26 and a lost motion device 28) while a "change" signal is being produced.
