Abstract
1415226 Variable-speed gearing NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 6 Nov 1973 [9 Nov 1972] 51519/73 Heading F2D A gas turbine engine 10 for motor vehicle propulsion is combined with an auxiliary transmission unit 40 and a main transmission unit 42, the output shaft 46 of the unit 40 being connected to the input shaft (not shown) of the unit 42, and the speed of the output shaft 82 of the latter being sensed by a device 80 which controls a clutch member 60 in the unit 40 so that the shaft 46 is driven through reduction gearing 50, 54, 56, 52 at low speeds of the shaft 82, and is coupled directly to the output shaft 34, 47 of the turbine at higher speeds. The gearwheel 50 is fixed to the shaft 47, the gear-wheels 54, 56 to a countershaft 58, the gear-wheel 52 is freely rotatable on the shaft 46 which has an end rotatable in a bore in the shaft 47, and the clutch member is splined on the shaft 46. An actuating lever 62 for the clutch member is operated by a piston 72 driven in either direction from the neutral position shown by fluid from a pump 78 which is electrically connected to the speed sensor 80. Planetary gearing providing e.g. four ratios, in the main unit 42 is controlled by hydraulic means 84 under the control of an electronic circuit 86 governed by a turbine speed sensor 92 driven by the shaft 34 and an accelerator pedal position sensor 88.
