1296754 1 - Substituted - 6,7 - methylenedioxy - 4(1H) - oxocinnoline - 3 - carbonitriles ELI LILLY & CO 2 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969 29 Dec 1969] 19320/72 Divided out of 1296753 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the Formula I wherein R is methyl, ethyl, n or i-propyl, nbutyl, #-hydroxyethyl or allyl may be prepared by reducing 2<SP>1</SP>-nitro-4<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP>-methylenedioxyacetophenone to 21-amino-4<SP>1</SP>,51-methylenedioxy - acetophenone followed by diazotizing with nitrous acid and cyclizing to yield 6,7-methylenedioxycinnoline - 4 - ol, brominating to 3- bromo - 6,7 - methylenedioxycinnoline - 4 - ol followed by treatment with cuprous cyanide to form 6,7 - methylenedioxycinnoline - 4 - ol - 3- carbonitrile and alkylating to form the 1-alkyl, alkenyl or #-hydroxyethyl compound I. The compounds I are intermediates in the formation of pharmaceutically active 1-substituted - 6,7 - methylenedioxy - 4 - (1H) - oxocinnoline-3-carboxylic acids of the parent.
