Abstract

1296640 Non-woven fabrics FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 7 Oct 1971 [10 Oct 1970] 46718/71 Heading D1R A fleece of polyamide fibres or continuous filaments is bonded by heating the fleece to 120‹C to 180‹C whilst in contact with an aqueous solution of #-caprolactam. The fleece may be sprayed with an aqueous solution of #-caprolactam. Alternatively it may be spun from nylon 6 from which the #-caprolactam has been only partly removed by water, or which has been kept molten to allow some depolymerisation to #-caprolactam. The filaments leaving the die thus contain 0.3 to 3% of e-caprolactam. This dissolves when the fleece is sprayed with water. Heating is preferably carried out by dielectric heating, followed by hot calendering e.g. by a first pair of rolls at 158‹C then a second pair at 151‹C.
