1296592 Polyethylene compositions UNIROYAL Inc 2 June 1970 [26 June 1969 22 July 1969] 26443/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division C2] Compositions comprise polyethylene and an antioxidant of formula where Aryl is phenyl or alkylphenyl, Alkyl has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R is C 1-8 alkyl or C 5-9 cycloalkyl; or a N,N<SP>1</SP>-dialkyl-N,N<SP>1</SP>-diaryl-1,4- arylene diamine; or a N,N<SP>1</SP>-di-(#-hydroxyalkyl) - N,N<SP>1</SP> - diaryl - 1,4 - arylene diamine. The polyethylene may be peroxide cured, e.g. with dicumyl peroxide, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-(tbutylperoxy) hexane, 1,10 - di - (cumylperoxy) decane or 2,5-di-(t-butylperoxy)-2,5-dimethylhexyne, and may contain fillers, e.g. carbon black, silica, alumina or calcium silicate. Many suitable amines are listed and examples describe vulcanized compositions prepared from polyethylene, carbon black, dicumyl peroxide and N,N,N<SP>1</SP> - trimethyl - N<SP>1</SP> - phenyl, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - N - isopropyl - N<SP>1</SP> - phenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl - N - cyclohexyl - N<SP>1</SP> - phenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl - N - sec. - butyl - N<SP>1</SP> - phenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl - N - (1,3 - dimethylbutyl) - N<SP>1</SP>-phenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - N - propyl - N<SP>1</SP> - phenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - N - butyl - N<SP>1</SP> - phenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl - N,N<SP>1</SP> - diphenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - diethyl- N,N<SP>1</SP> - diphenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - N - phenyl - N<SP>1</SP> - # - naphthyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - (# - hydroxyethyl) - N,N<SP>1</SP> - diphenyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - (# - hydroxypropyl)- N,N<SP>1</SP> - diphenyl- and N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - butyl - N,N<SP>1</SP> - diphenyl-p-phenylene diamines; and for comparison polymerized 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline and N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl - N,N<SP>1</SP> - bis-(1,4-dimethylpentyl)-p-phenylene di amine.
