1296376 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 15 April 1970 [16 April 1969] 19334/69 Heading A3B [Also in Division B5] A heel band for pressing upper material against a last comprises a wear layer 20 of a low friction plastics material such as polyethylene, a backing band 22 of spring steel, and a central body 21 of polyurethane, a woven cotton fabric being interposed between layer 20 and the body 21 to enhance the bonding of the layer to the body. The body may be hollow and may contain compressed air or glass beads 38 to improve its flexure properties. A gap 32 exists between the band 22 and the body in its central area when the band is not in its fully flexed position, the gap improving flexibility of the band.
