Abstract
1295917 Claw piece for milking machine CHRISTENSEN & CO SA AS 20 Jan 1970 [23 Jan 1969] 2669/70 Heading AIM [Also in Division F2] A claw piece for a milking machine has a housing I with a sloping bottom 2. The inlet pipes from the teat cups 4 and an outlet pipe 5. A valve comprising a ball 9, a stem 8, and washer 11 acts at the mouth of the milk outlet. In one position of the valve shown the ball 9 seals the milk outlet, the valve being held in this position by. a weight 10 on the end of the stem. During the milking operation the housing is under vacuum and ball 9 is raised so that it does not seal the outlet pipe 5, but washer 11 seals the housing from atmosphere by acting against valve seat 6. If for any reason the vacuum in the housing is lost, e.g. by the teat cups being detached from the cow, the valve 9 falls downward under the action of gravity and seals the milk outlet pipe 5 thus preventing loss of vacuum in this pipe. A locking means is provided so that the valve may be held either in its upper position' in which inlet 5 is open or in its lower position wherein inlet 5 is closed, by a catch which can engage slots in a bar attached to the housing. The valve is locked in its upper position to permit the milking machine to be washed. The valve is locked in its lower position to ensure that the outlet pipe 5 remains sealed while the claw is transferred from one cow to another.
