Abstract

1295861 Packaging T J A BURROW 26 May 1970 [25 Feb 1969] 10024/69 Heading B8C An article is enclosed in a first envelope which is protected by enclosure within a second, inflated, envelope. As illustrated, a transistor 10 is in an envelope 11 from which thermoplastic ligaments 13 and 14 project. Two halves of the outer envelope 18 are heat sealed together to surround the envelope 11 and to trap the ligament 14. A nozzle 23 introduces compressed air, after which the ligament 13 is drawn tight and trapped by heat sealing the neck 20. The envelopes and ligaments may be transparent and be made from polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride. As alternatives to the form shown, the outer envelope may be a cube, pyramid or cylinder. The arrangement may be used to package electric light bulbs.
