Abstract
1295623 Conjugated diolefins JAPANESE GEON CO Ltd 8 Jan 1970 [13 Jan 1969 3 June 1969] 1049/70 Heading C5E [Also in Divisions B1 and C2] Conjugated diolefins are produced by reacting a mono-olefin having a linear chain of at least 4 carbon atoms with O 2 , in the vapour phase at an elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst comprising (1) Mo, (2) Bi, (3) Li or Na and (4) oxygen. The reaction temperature may be 300-650‹ C. Inert gaseous diluents may be present. Examples describe the preparation of 1,3-butadiene from n-butene and isoprene from 2-methylbutene-2. Acrolein may be produced simultaneously with the conjugated diolefin if propylene is added to the feed. Similarly methacrolein is formed when isobutene is present.
