Abstract

1295562 Jointing SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 23336/71 Heading B3V [Also in Divisions B5 and B8] A package comprises two foil parts heatsealed together by a seam which includes a layer of a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate compounded with an acrylic resin. The latter may comprise polyacrylic acid or acid ester or polymethacrylic acid or acid ester. One or both parts may comprise aluminium foil provided with a coating of the copolymer, the or one coating being compounded with acrylic resin. Alternatively, a strip of aluminium (14, Fig. 2) coated on at least one of its sides with compounded copolymer is inserted in the seam to extend at least part-way therealong. The package parts may form a rachet (Fig. 2) or a flanged P.V.C., polystyrene or polycarbonate box (1, Fig. 1) provided with a lid (3) having an embossed tear tab (4). The aluminium strip may form a tear tab which upon removal releases a pouring aperture. The foil layers of a socket may provide tear tabs (15, Fig. 2). The copolymer may be polymerized with maleic acid. Aluminium/paper and aluminium/paper/aluminium foils are disclosed.
