Abstract

1295558 Suspension agent for plastics powders KUFNER TEXTILWERKE KG 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 22208/71 Headings C3P and C3R A suspension agent for plastics powders comprises an aqueous solution of an ammonium salt of at least one polymeric organic acid in a concentration of 0À05 to 2% by weight, the solution also containing 0À2 to 4% by weight of one or more fatty acids in ultra-finely divided form. The polymeric organic acid may be a homopolymeric or copolymeric acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid, and the fatty acid may be stearic acid or palmitic acid. The fatty acid may be introduced into the composition by heating and agitating the aqueous solution of the ammonium salt of the polymeric acid or acids together with the fatty acid to beyond the melting point of the fatty acid, for example by introducing steam, and subsequently cooling with agitation to obtain the suspension agent containing the fatty acid in ultra-finely divided form. A printing paste comprises one or more plastics powders suspended in a suspension agent according to the invention, optionally together with a plasticizer and/or a non-ionic emulsifier. The plastics powder is preferably polyethylene and/or a polyamide. It may also be a polyurethane. In Examples 1 and 3 a suspension agent containing an ammonium salt of a polymeric acrylic acid, and stearic acid is prepared. Printing pastes containing the above suspension agent and (1) a ternary 6, 6/12, 12 copolyamide, and optionally a water-soluble dye, (2) a ternary 6, 6/12, 12 copolyamide and, as plasticizer, benzenesulphonic acid N-butyl amide, and (3) polyethylene together with viscous polyisobutylene and a non-ionogenic emulsifier based on an oxyethylation product are prepared in the examples.
