Abstract
1295180 Pumping water out of moored craft W B NOE 20 July 1970 35101/70 Heading B7M [Also in Division F1] A system of pumping water out of the bottom of a moored boat D operable by the rise and fall of tides comprises a first tank 10 supported in the tidal water in which the boat is moored having an opening 15, an inlet 16 at the upper end through which water enters near high tide and an outlet 17 at the lower end. A tube 18 connected in the outlet 17 by check valve 19 extends through opening 15: A second tank 11 becomes full of water at high tide and empties at low tide. A third tank 12 is supported above the water and a jet pump 14 at the bottom of the boat is connected to the lower end of the first tank 10. The tanks and pump are connected so that as the tide rises the first and second tanks are filled with water and as the tide falls the second tank 11 empties to create a vacuum causing water to be drawn from the first tank into the third tank. The vacuum is broken when the second tank is emptied and vent pipe 36 is exposed to atmosphere, so that water flows from the third tank through tube 18 of the first tank and through nozzle 48 of the pump to operate the pump. In the embodiment shown the first tank 10 is pivotally mounted at its upper end on a fixed support and the tops of the first and second tanks are at about the same level.
