Abstract

1295175 Injection-blow moulding INTERNATIONAL PRESS DEVELOPMENT ESTABLISHMENT 20 Feb 1970 [1 March 1969] 8227/70 Heading B5A An injection-blow-moulding machine comprises at least one set of injection, blow and release units and a plurality of mandrels, one for each unit, on a rotating support so that they act simultaneously at all stations, each moving successively through injection, blow and release units. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, one-piece injection moulds 22, two-piece blow moulds 28, and release holes 31 are equiangularly spaced about fixed table 2, to which is connected by columns 3, 4, an upper fixed table 1. Mandrels 18 having a blowing duct 18<SP>1</SP> with a poppet valve are carried on table 6 rotating about column 5. Table 6 may be lowered by cylinders 7, 8, not fixed thereto, pistons 7<SP>1</SP>, 81 of which are fixed to table 1, and raised by cylinder 9. Bush 14 on table 6 has vertical slots (15, Fig. 4, not shown) and connecting diagonal slots (16) engaging a fixed pawl (17, Fig. 5, not shown) to rotate the table near the top of its ascent. The table 6 is accurately indexed by engagement of studs 6<SP>1</SP> with slot 4<SP>11</SP> in sleeve 4<SP>1</SP> of column 4. The injection apparatus may be raised to engage moulds 22 by piston 36 and screw impellers 26 may be vertically reciprocated by Cylinders 27. A stripper ring 21 around mandrel 18 and on fork (32, Fig. 5) is lowered by cylinder (33) to eject blown articles (34) through holes 31. In the embodiment shown, at any lowered position of table 6, two mandrels are in the injection moulds, two in the blow moulds and two at the release stations. The table is then raised clear of the moulds, indexed and lowered at the next position.
