Abstract

1295139 Solvated cyanoborohydrides VENTRON CORP 3 June 1970 [16 June 1969 (2)] 26866/70 Heading C2B Li, Na, K or quaternary ammonium cyanoborohydrides are solvated with up to 1 mole of glyme, diglyme, triglyme, tetrahydrofuran or dimethylformamide per mole of cyanoborohydride; only dimethylformamide can be used to solvate potassium. The solvated compounds are prepared by adding HCN, preferably as a gas, to a mixture of the appropriate borohydride with the solvating medium, and reacting firstly at 10-35‹ C. until hydrogen evolution ceases and then at between 35‹ C. and the boiling point of the solvent. The complex can be recovered by evaporating excess solvent simultaneously with or subsequent to the second stage, and can be used as a reducing agent in the form of a solution in water or the solvent. Dioxane complexes.-Complexes of Li or Na cyanoborohydride with up to 2 moles of dioxane are obtained by adding dioxane to the above reaction mixtures at any time after hydrogen evolution ceases.
