Abstract

1294466 Apparatus for injecting gas into liquids VOGELBUSCH GmbH 4 Nov 1969 [20 Nov 1968] 54025/69 Heading B1C Apparatus for injecting gas into liquids, see Fig. 1, comprises a vented container 12, a tubular member 13 depending into the container, a pump 3 arranged to circulate liquid from the container through the tubular member from top to bottom thereof, and at least one fixed hollow member I disposed in the tubular member through which gas is introduced into the liquid flowing through the tubular member. A deflector 17 may be arranged beneath the lower end of the tubular member. Each hollow member may include a heat-exchanger portion 1" arranged above the portion 1' through which gas is introduced into the liquid. The tubular member may be provided with apertures 14 through which gas in the container 12 may be induced into the liquid flowing through the tubular member. In a modification, see Fig. 5, the circulating pump 39 is arranged to draw liquid from vented container 30 through a rise pipe 31 disposed within tubular member 32 and pump it past hollow members 40 arranged radially in the upper part of the tubular member. The lower end of rise pipe 31 may be flared so as to act as a deflector and an annular suction, aperture 44 may be arranged in the tubular member. In another modification, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), circulation of liquid is effected by means of an axial flow pump arranged in the upper end of a rise pipe disposed within the tubular member, and gas is injected through a hollow member concentrically surrounding the rise pipe in the upper part of the tubular member. Each of the apparatuses may be used for the aeration of nutrient media for the cultivation of microrganisms.
