Abstract
1294244 Polymeric hydantoins FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 20 Feb 1970 [21 Feb 1969] 8182/70 Heading C3R Oligomers and polymers of the general formula I in which R<SP>5</SP> is a C 1-18 alkylene radical; R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are each H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aralkyl or substituted aralkyl groups; R<SP>9</SP> is an aliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic radical; R<SP>10</SP> is an aliphatic or aromatic radical, m is an integer of 1 to 100 and Y is a vinyl or isopropenyl group, are obtained by reacting a compound of the general formula where R<SP>8</SP> is an alkyl group, at a temperature of 0-250‹ C. with a monoisocyanate Y-R<SP>9</SP>-NCO and simultaneously with a di-isocyanate of formula R<SP>10</SP>(NCO) 2 , the monoisocyanate to diisocyanate ratio being 1 : 0À5 to 1 : 50, the total quantity of NCO groups being substantially equivalent to the total amount of polyglycine derivative (II). In the examples the polymers of Formula I have (a) R<SP>5</SP> = R<SP>10</SP> = -C 6 H 5 - CH 2 -C 6 H 5 -, R<SP>6</SP> = R<SP>7</SP> = CH 3 , R<SP>9</SP> = p-phenylene, Y is and m is 19 and (b) the same as (a) with R<SP>9</SP>= -CO-O-CH 2 CH 2 -.
