Abstract

1294213 Tongs R W HOUGHTON 23 April 1971 [18 Aug 1970] 39786/70 Heading B4W A gripping device for domestic use comprise two gripping arms 1, 2 connected together by spring means, such as the strip spring 3, and releasable catch means for locking the arms together when brought towards one another in a gripping position. As shown the device assumes the form of tongs, which are intended for use in removing, e.g. a basin from a pan of hot water, and which comprise jaws 9 of the form shown. The jaws and spring are secured in respective slots in the arms. The releasable catch means is constituted by a toothed bar 5, urged by a spring 8 into engagement with an end of a slot 6 so acting to lock the arms at selected openings about articles to be lifted.
