Abstract

1293592 Dust separator COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 10 Nov 1970 [11 Nov 1969] 55167/69 Heading B1T Apparatus for separating dust from air extracted from working areas in a coal mine comprises a duct 1 enclosing an upstream fan 4, a primary separator 5 (Fig. 3, not shown), a moving band filter 12 and a downstream fan 21. Separator 5 comprises an array of frusto-conical sleeves arranged coaxially with the shaft of fan 4 and includes a lower removable dust drawer. Filter 12 comprises a length of material extending from one spool 17 to the other round staggered rollers 15. Spools 17 have handles 18 and are located outside the duct. Dampers 13, 14 and 20 enable filter 12 to be cleaned, by switching off fan 21, partly closing the damper 20 and reversing dampers 13, 14 (Fig. 2, not shown) so that partly cleaned gas flows through side conduit 10 to impinge on the downstream side of the filter, expelling dust from the upstream side to outlet 19.
