Abstract
1292999 Continuous casting GERO METALLURGICAL CORP 19 May 1970 24144/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] Iron or steel is discharged through the orifice of a vacuum degassing vessel by the application of an electromagnetic force sufficient in conjunction with the ferrostatic head to overcome the vacuum; the force may be variable to maintain a constant flow of metal, controlled automatically or by an operator who controls the speed of strand withdrawal from a mould 17. As illustrated, metal is teemed from ladle 14 under control of stopper 16 into tundish 2 enclosed in chamber 4 but observable through tube 12 and connected by conduit 6 to a vacuum pump. Secured to the bottom of the tundish is a nozzle extension within which is located an inductor coil 32; the metal discharges in a thin stream into vertical oscillated mould 17.
