Abstract
1292905 Degassing and preparing laminates COMPAGNIE DE SAINT GOBAIN-PONT-AMOUSSON 12 Feb 1970 [17 Feb 1969] 6837/70 Heading B5N A process for the manufacture of laminated sheets of transparent material comprises enclosing in a deformable envelope sheets of transparent material having a thermoplastics material interposed between adjacent sheets, applying a negative pressure to the interior of the envelope and applying a higher negative pressure externally of the envelope, thus degassing the assembly, and then applying a positive pressure externally of the envelope and heating the envelope so that the thermoplastics material softens and adheres to the sheets of transparent material. Apparatus for carrying out the process may comprise a deformable envelope made from a pair of flexible rubber sheets releasably clamped together around their peripheries, and a chamber, e.g. an autoclave, containing the envelope and means to apply a negative pressure in the envelope, means to apply negative and positive pressure in the chamber and means to heat the chamber. A sheet of glass may be laminated to a sheet of plastics material by polyvinyl butyral.
