Abstract

1292780 Polymerization of lactones STAMICARBON NV 19 April 1971 [29 Jan 1970] 21607/71 Heading C3R One or more lactone monomers are polymerized in the presence of an initiator and a polymerization catalyst, wherein the polymerization reaction is effected in the presence of an initiator consisting of an organic compound having at least one non-cyclic carboxylic ester group and which does not contain a reactive hydrogen substituent. Lactone polyesters with blocked end-groups and an average molecular weight of more than 10,000 are claimed per se. Conventional polymerization catalysts are given. In the examples, the specified lactones are- # - caprolactone, # - methyl - # - caprolactone, #-valerolactone and #-propiolactone, the specified initiators are ethylene glycol diacetate, dimethyl terephthalate, 2-ethyl-hexyl acetate, di - (2 - ethyl - hexyl)adipate, ethylene glycol dibenzoate, and triethylene glycol diacetate.
