Abstract

1,172,419. Coating. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. IS Dec., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 57070/67. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C3] Substrates are coated with a material which hardens at ambient temperature on addition of a hydroperoxide polymerization catalyst and which comprises in admixture (i) an unsaturated polyester, (ii) an ethylenic monomer copolymerizable therewith, (iii) a cobalt accelerator and (iv) an additional accelerator consisting of a mono- or diester of acetoacetic acid with benzyl alcohol or a mono- or polyhydric alcohol that has a straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated carbon chain with up to six carbon atoms substituted by at least one hydroxyl group that remains unesterified by acetoacetic acid or by at least one dialkylamin, N-morpholin or alkoxy group. In the Examples a wood veneer which has been bleached and primed with nitrocellulose (butanol-moist), ethyl acetate, butyl acetate and cyclohexanone hydroperoxide is coated.
