Abstract

1292467 Adhesive signs MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 15 Dec 1969 61064/69 Heading G5C [Also in Division B8] A metallic emblem 10 is applied to one face of resilient mounting material 18 which has opposed faces coated with pressure sensitive adhesive 22, 20, the second coating 20 being protected by a release liner 24. Whole or part of the periphery of the emblem has a rib 16 protruding from its underside 14 which serves to sever the mounting material 18, but not the liner 24, when the emblem is applied, e.g. by an hydraulic press 34. Short ribs 28 may be provided spaced about the periphery and extending from the rib 26 a distance equal to the thickness of the liner 24 to ensure that the liner is not cut by the rib 26. If the emblem has an aperture 30 it is bordered by a rib 32 protruding from the surface 14 to the same extent as the ribs 28. The rib 32 thus severs both the mounting material and the liner 24. After emblems have been applied to a strip of mounting material, the excess material is stripped from the liner, and the mounting material and liner removed from any apertures 30 by an air knife 40. When an emblem is to be used it is removed from the liner and mounted, e.g. on a car by the adhesive coating 20. The emblem may be diecast or moulded in zinc. The mounting material 18 may be of neoprene, vinyl or polyurethane, and the release liner of silicone coated paper. In a modification, only the two ends of each emblem are provided with ribs 26 and are applied to spaced strips of mounting material on release liners.
