Abstract

1292071 Treating tars CARBONISATION ET CHARBONS ACTIFS 4 March 1970 [5 March 1969 16 July 1969] 10383/70 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] An emulsifying agent comprises a wood tar, cellulose tar, lignin tar or coal tar, and fractions or mixtures thereof, treated with an amine or an alkaline earth base, e.g. lime. The alkaline earth base must comprise 0À1 to 2 parts by weight per part of tar, and the amine preferably contains oxyethyl chains. A fatty acid having more than 12 carbon atoms and/or a phosphatide may be added to the agent. The amount of amine or base added must be sufficient to salify at least partially the tar and the fatty acid and/ or phosphatide.
