Abstract

1291877 Tubular heat exchangers COMPAGNIE PECHINEY 5 Dec 1969 [6 Dec 1968] 59486/69 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger for heating scale forming liquids and suspensions by means of heating fluid passed through heating members 31-34 located one above another within a jacket 1 wherein each member 31 comprises an assembly of superimposed flat tubular coils each connected to inlet and outlet headers 61, 71, the coupling between the ends of each coil and the headers is such that each coil may be raised sequentially into the free space 161 above the respective assembly for inspection and cleaning purposes without the need to dismantle the coils from the headers. Access to the free spaces 161-164 is through inspection apertures 171-174. Each coil may either be in the form of a single or double spiral (see Figs. 2, 3) or be constituted by coaxial rings (see Figs. 4, 5). As shown the turns of each coil are welded to pairs of flat bars (441, 442, Figs. 2, 3) with inlet and outlet turns located at the periphery of the coil being left free, Fig. 9. Scale forming liquid enters the heat exchanger through pipe 132. Impellers 21-24 mounted on a central shaft 25 are provided for recirculating and uniformly distributing liquid across the heating members 31-34. For inspection and cleaning of the coils, the upper dome 15 is removed and the shaft 25 and impellers are dismantled: the upper coil 311 of the heating member 31 is raised and held in a position spaced from the following coil 312 by means of lifting and suspension devices (see Figs. 10-17, not shown) lowered down into the jacket 1. After inspecting and cleaning coil 31 the same operation is repeated for the following coil 312 which is raised and placed against the upper coil 311. Each coil has an inner ring 41 provided with blocks (81, Fig. 13) which can be engaged by the lifting device.
