Abstract

1291800 Vascular clamp E J HADJIYANNAKIS 13 Sept 1971 42599/71 Heading A5R [Also in Division B4] A bifurcated vascular clamp comprises two generally S-shaped shanks 1, 2, Fig. 1, each shank terminating at one end in a handle 3, 4 and at the other end, via a pivotal connection 9, in a set of double jaw members 5, 6 and 7, (8) wherein the jaws are arranged to act in a clamping plane parallel to a plane in which the pivotal axis of the clamp lies. At the handle end of the clamp there is provided a locking rack 10 on shank 2 and a locking rack-engaging member 11 on shank 1 which can engage any one of the nine teeth provided on the rack so that manipulation of the shanks adjusts the clamping pressure. The jaws of the clamp are provided with a triple row of teeth 12 on jaw members 5, 6 separated by grooves 13, Fig. 2. The lower jaw members 7, (8) have double rows of teeth wherein the teeth of jaw members 7, (8) on shank 1, cooperate with the grooves of the jaw members 5, 6 on shank 2. A detachable organ holder (Fig. 3 not shown) for use with the clamp comprises a bar (20) clamped by a screw (21) to the shanks of the clamp. Blades (22) are connected to each end of the bar and arranged, for example, to act either side of the renal artery (23) and vein (24) of the kidney (25). A further embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) comprises shanks which are substantially straight.
